A truly wonderful book both the illustrations and reading content are all consuming.
The book will be a joy for children and also appreciated by adults who will see an amusing side to the story line.
A dead cert for Christmas.
thanks

This is another retelling of Cinderella, this time by author Emma Dodd. This time Cinderella is an elephant and she has two mean cousins who are warthogs. Oddly the book says that Prince Trunky is looking for someone to be his girlfriend but at the end of the book they get married "the very next day". The illustrations are nice and colorful.
In the beginning of the book, the Warty Sisters (Cinderelephant's cousins) refer to her as "Cinder-irrelevant" - that vocabulary will need some explaining with younger students.
My problem with this book is the mean spiritedness about weight that is all through the book. It begins when the Furry Godmother mother says, "Go to the party and enjoy yourself, but......and it's a big but.... you must be home by midnight." On the page with the words "and it's a big but" is the pink clad rear end of Cinderelephant trying to stuff herself into the white limo. Not a big deal but it is a mean spirited slap about the character's weight. And the book continues along that thread - Prince Trunky's decisions "carry a lot of weight", Cinderelephant "had never been so enormously excited in her life." (And the word enormous is in big bold letters just in case readers miss it.) And, "they were hugely happy ever after" - again with hugely in bold type. The final drawing shows two large elephants stuffed into a small car.
Now on the otherhand, the main character is an elephant and maybe the author is just poking fun at the idea of an elephant (who is supposed to be large) doing human things.

My kids and I sat down to read this together because I really thought 10 year old Handsome would find it funny as well. Most boys are not into princess stories but this one had mean and smelly wart sisters so I thought, why not?!
The photos show a very large, female elephant who like Cinderella is not allowed to go to the ball with her sisters. Her fairy Godmouse turns her into a princess and she does go. The bored prince is very happy to see her until she has to rush out because the magic only lasts a few hours. Upon leaving she looses a very large shoe and the prince searches for her by finding someone who fits the shoe.
The Cinderella story stays intact but is very cute with a large elephant as our main focus.
Adorable story that I cannot wait to read to my daughter's class.
Cute book with a new take on an old fairy tale! Lots of pretty pictures to hold little one's attention. Quick bedtime read!
Cutest book cutest photos . Any child would love and every adult would love reading it to a child .
